Joseph has spent more than ten years as a hands-on engineer - building production systems on AWS, automating infrastructure until it runs itself, moving organisations onto new platforms without losing a thing, and hardening systems so the wrong people cannot get in. In plain words: a decade making critical systems fast, safe, and self-running.
A Computer Science degree took him into a career that runs through household names. At Prime Video & Amazon Studios, he engineered the automation behind The Lord of the Rings production. His work has also run through Societe Generale, PokerStars, Skanska, Pernod Ricard, and the Department of Health & Social Care - global finance, entertainment, construction, government.
The sharpest stretch: platform engineering at LSEG - the London Stock Exchange Group - inside one of the largest digital transformations in financial services, moving 19,000 developers onto new systems, as the escalation engineer other engineers call when nobody else can fix it. At that level there is no patience for "mostly works": the systems have to stay up, because when they do not, markets feel it.
From that world, the way everyday businesses are served looks absurd. The engineering that global finance takes for granted never reaches them - what reaches them is a template website, a chain of hand-offs, and an invoice.
